Testimonials

"I recently took advantage of JOLT's free consultation to provide me with some insight into the viability of my invention that I wanted to put to the market. Having not had any business experience in the past, I considered I needed an unbiased, professional view of my product to see if in fact it was marketable and the process of how I could do that. Jackie from JOLT Consulting was reassuring and gave me the confidence to believe in my product and forge ahead in progressing to the next stages of design and manufacture. It was the boost I needed as I had no idea how I was going to source manufacturers overseas. JOLT consultants do the groundwork for you and I have every confidence now that I have networked with the right people to get my product where I want it to go."

Importing Organic Jewellery

nls08031tnSome of the loveliest pieces of jewellery available today are made from organic materials.  Coral, shell, shark teeth and wood feature in many necklaces and pendants made overseas.  They are cheap to buy and very easy to sell.

The problem with organic jewellery is in its origin.  They are derived from animals in one way or another.  This means you have to be careful in what you buy and what you try to import.

Some countries will have bans on the sale of certain materials,  for example turtle shell or coral.  You may find an online supplier of these goods but the items may not be allowed to leave the country.  It pays to research the export restrictions in the country you have chosen to deal with.

You will need to check with Customs to see what materials you are allowed to bring into the country.  Items of plant origin including jewellery should be declared to Customs.  They may be inspected and AQIS may need to quarantine them until they have been treated.

Customs protects our flora and fauna with their regulations so if you are planning on selling your products overseas, expect to deal with their Customs services.  As an example, the shark tooth pendant is very popular the with beach and surf crowds.  If you have an order from somewhere like Hawaii you know that the items will be stopped at Customs.  They will want to know which species of shark the tooth belongs to and which country it came from.  Many species of shark are protected so teeth from those species will not be allowed through Customs.

You can build a thriving business dealing in organic jewellery but you will have to do some research first.  If you need help knowing where to start you can call Jolt for assistance.

Happy importing
